Fund set up for sacked workers
Lucky us
Cash-strapped Australian workers who believe they have been unfairly sacked will be able to access up to $4,000 for legal advice under a new federal government scheme.
But the funds cannot be used for any court action.
"The Australian government has a clear message for employers who believe they can terminate their employees for an unlawful and discriminatory reason," Mr Andrews said in a statement.
"Such employers have no place in a modern, productive Australia."
We can be sacked for smirking or wearing an ugly shirt or failing to sleep with the boss. But we can't be sacked if it's discrimination. And if it's discrimination - we get to access $4000 for legal advice. Last time I heard, solicitors were charging like wounded bulls.

Looks like some back peddling being done...if the system works so well why the need for a fighting fund???Like plugging a leaky boat with bandaids. Some savvy legal eagles will cash in on this and start some nice class actions me thinks...the sooner the better. Funny thing about class actions...you don't need to be in the same workplace, just have a loss or cause via the same reason. Think about it.
There are 17 different types of discrimination - the fund is set up to fight these and nothing else.
Ergo, if the boss doesn't like your shirt - no access to the $4000. Out the door, buddy!
Ahhh but the onus proof of discriminiatin or not lies with the defendant (employer) "Boss sacked me because I am gay" Employer willnot want that bandied about..true or not...but he has to dis prove it first and then the damage is done to the business.
The employee has to prove discrimination and ergo will be able to access the $4,000. The smart employer will cover his/her butt.
